Google's Challenge To Microsoft:

We are all familiar with the two titans in the field of Computer technology. They are Google and Microsoft. There seems to be a cold war happening between these titans.

Google is planning to introduce a fast, simple and secure computer operating system that is designed to work well on the web. This operating system is named as Google Chrome OS.

Google Chrome is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be aimed at netbook PC's. There is also plans to implement it in PC's.

Google said the operating systems that browsers currently run on were designed in an era when there was no web.

Users of Chrome OS can also look forward to a minimal user interface to make room for web-based interactions and a secure architecture.

"We are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates," said Google.

Google Chrome OS is based on a Linux kernel, it will run on both Intel and ARM chips, and is aimed at enabling all web-based applications to work automatically.

Google has gradually been increasing the number of its web-based applications, such as G mail and Google Docs, based on premise that these applications will replace traditional software.

Microsoft holds 90% of market on net book PC operating system. Now Google is likely to give away this Google Chrome OS for free or nominal charge as is developed from a free and open source kernal, and larger goal surely would be to shut Microsoft out the Netbooks market.

Sony Vegas: The Boon For Multimedia

Today one of my friend showed me a video. I was amazed after seeing the video. The video is about showing himself in double role. What amazed me is he is able to show his two roles at a time and their actions are so perfect as there were two people. He did that effect using the software called Sony Vegas. After hearing that i quickly browsed about it and collected some information.

Sony Vegas is a editing software published by Sony.It has many versions. Vegas does not require any specialized hardware to run properly, allowing it to operate on almost any standard Windows computer across a broad range of hardware. Features of this software can be categorized into two types:

Video features:

Vegas supports unlimited video and audio tracks, any aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9, etc.) and pixel aspect ratio, and any frame rate (23.97, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, etc.)
We can mix video clips with different frame rates and resolutions. Video settings such as frame rate, aspect ratio, etc. can be changed at any time during editing.

Audio features:

The software provides many tools for 5.1 surround mixes, including key frameable surround panning and effects for tracks. Film-style surround panning mode supports panning between speakers using a constant power model, which is optimized for theater-style speaker placement.

Nokia 6600i Latest Mobile

The Nokia 6600 was undoubtedly one of Nokia's most popular smartphones. Ever since it was launched back in 2004, it has sold millions of units and even now, we come across people using the phone, albeit as a backup phone.Having said that, anything that shares a similar name with the erstwhile king of smart phones, deserves attention. That attention was given to the brand new Nokia 6600i which has been announced by the Finnish handset maker a few days ago. Whoever hearing the 6600 lineage would have thought of the phone to be a smartphone- or at least share the lineage in the form of a similar form factor. Sadly, that is not the case. Nokia seems to have forgotten the good old 6600 completely as the latest iteration of the phone happens to be a slider phone - and it's not even a smartphone!

Meet the brand new 6600i, the latest Series 40 release from Nokia. The 6600i is a decently spec-ed device sporting a 5 megapixel camera, a 1GB micro SD card and the Nokia stereo headset WH-203 with FM radio. On the design front, this one might just turn the occasional heads, thanks to its "brushed steel covers and chrome center key which constitute both understated elegance as well as visual simplicity" as Nokia puts it.

This, as it turns out, it might just be another S40 phone from the company with nothing revolutionary to offer. Nokia could have done better than this, at least by not naming it after the 6600, which inspite of having been termed an "oyster egg" by detractors during its heydays, was a kick-ass phone.It will be made available in select markets in Q3 2009 at an expected price of Rs. 13,000

Mozilla's Firefox 3.5 for imminent launch

"I don't need to remind everyone of how important this phase is, so we're going to need your awesome testing skills to make sure its as polished as possible," wrote Mozilla engineer Aakashd in an official blog post."
According to Aakashd, participants are encouraged to perform "exploratory tests" on a number of newly implemented features, including:

* Private browsing
* Video and audio "elements"
* The W3C Geolocation API
* JavaScript query selectors
* CSS 2.1 and 3 properties
* SVG transforms
* Offline applications

Mozilla is also revising and replacing various FF icons.

"We are now in the process of landing a few refreshed icons for the Firefox 3.5 themes," explained Alex Faaborg, a user experience design expert at Mozilla. "Across all 4 platforms roughly 25 of the icons are either being tweaked or are entirely new (there were some last minute feature additions, like geolocation). On Windows (both Vista and XP) we are replacing all of the secondary glyphs in the main window (various small arrows, new tab +, etc) with a consistent etched-in appearance. These etched in glyphs also feature a glowing hit state, which varies color by platform."

Faaborg also noted that the OS X background etch would be removed from the keyhole.

"We are also considering doing this on Windows, since it lightens and simplifies the appearance of our UI. Either way, we wanted to get the change landed on OS X, since a lot of people were eager to see the etch go (including myself, as it was my misguided idea in the first place).

Search Is Cool Again

Finally, search is cool again. The search engine space, long considered the exclusive domain of Google, is suddenly hot with innovation. Last week’s launch of the Wolfram|Alpha computational knowledge engine may not have repaved the search landscape, but it sends a strong message that the way we find stuff online is about to change. Wolfram|Alpha isn’t alone: Alternative services like Cuil, Hakia and Kosmix may not be popularly used verbs yet, but they all point toward an accelerating rate of change in search.

If we look back at the last ten years, the way we search hasn’t changed all that much: We enter data into a search box and then scroll through a list of links. More often than not, we find something that fits. While the underlying technology has admittedly advanced by leaps and bounds in the interim, to the point that most users only have to enter a search string in once before finding what they’re looking for, the front-end paradigm hasn’t changed in over a decade. As miraculous as the process might seem to someone who grew up on an early version of Yahoo’s index, search still isn’t as elegant or integrated as it could be.

Wolfram|Alpha’s approach takes search one step closer to elegant integration. If Google is like a librarian who answers your questions by pointing you toward the right stacks and shelves before sending you on your way, Wolfram|Alpha’s librarian actually pulls the report together for you, no walking required. Other services put their own spin on the interface and the ensuing experience: Cuil assembles results into categories, Hakia uses semantic algorithms that focus more on quality than popularity, and Kosmix builds contextual pages on-the-fly.

Even Microsoft, long an also-ran in search, refuses to cede ground. Following last year’s acquisition of Powerset, Microsoft is preparing its own next-generation search engine, Kumo, which now seems to be called “Bing”, for release.

Does this mean we’ll all be Cuilling each other anytime soon? Doubtful. First, old habits die hard – and most of us are hard-wired to use Google. Second, each newbie comes with its own set of shortcomings. Google still trumps them all for everyday use, and its recent introduction of enhanced customization options shows it continues to invest, innovate and compete.

And that’s the thing. Even if none of these small players ever makes a dent in Google’s market share – and they likely won’t – their mere existence gives Google added incentive to aggressively introduce new services and tweak existing ones. For all the neat things Google lets us do, its overwhelming dominance has left little room for competition. The current rebalancing, however slight, keeps the 800 pound gorilla honest and ensures we won’t be stuck scrolling through static lists of links for another decade.

Satyam Computer Services new owner Tech Mahindra

Tech Mahindra is the new owner of Satyam computers.The company bid the highest at Rs 58 per share which beaten the bids from engineering firm Larsen & Toubro and billionaire investor Wilbur Ross.

L & T bid at Rs 45.90 per Satyam share.Cognizant-Wilbur Ross combine had put in their bid at Rs 20/share for the fraud hit IT co.Tech Mahindra will have to pay Rs 1,757 crore to acquire 31% stake in satyam Computer Services.The IT co will have a market cap of Rs 5,666 crore on expanded equity.

Tech Mahindra will have to pay a total of Rs 2890 crore for 51% stake in Satyam.
This acquisition will help Tech Mahinder to expand their software services business and compete with their bigger rivals such as IBM, TCS, Infosis and Wipro.Satyam customers such as GE, GM and ford promised to maintain their relationship and build better portfolia of customers.

What is Conficker?
Computer experts say the Conficker infection -actually a computer "worm" that can copy itself to computers that aren't protected - is designed to start receiving new instructions from its designers on April Fool's Day, but experts say there are no signs yet that it will take down the Internet as we know it.

Who is doing this?
The best answer for this is 'Hackers'.

Why are hackers doing this?
Because this worm is capable of your computer keystrokes, including your passwords. Criminals might use this information to try to steal money from bank accounts.
Some experts say this is why they don't expect a major computer shutdown April 1. If computers aren't working, the worm can't spread and can't capture passwords.
"They don't want to bring down the infrastructure," Paul Ferguson, an advanced-threats researcher for Trend Micro, said in an interview with Cnet.com. "That would not allow them to continue carrying out their scams."

Should we be worried?
The professionals say don't panic. Vincent Weafer, vice president of security response for Symantec, the company that makes Norton AntiVirus, says the worm is a security concern, but the chance of a major computer failure April 1 "is really not very likely."
Panic could make things worse. If people flock to the Internet to download security patches that aren't the real deal, Conficker might be hidden in fake patches, which would make it easier for the worm to spread.

How do I get rid of Conficker?
Microsoft notes that if you're already infected with Conficker, the worm actually might prevent you from downloading security patches that would remove it. In fact, the latest version of the worm released earlier in March was designed to stop those patches from updating. If you can't patch your PC, Microsoft suggests you try using the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner.

Is my computer infected already?
Your home computer might be safer than your computer at work. If you have set your PC to download Microsoft Windows patches automatically, you were probably protected before the worm had a chance to sneak onto your computer.

How can I prevent this?
First, you can add Microsoft's security patches to your computer. You can use this patch from Panda Security, which will vaccinate any virus that's on a thumb drive or other items that connect to computer USB ports. You can keep up with automatic updates of computer anti-virus software.

If you want anti-virus software on the cheap, USA Today recommends WinPatrol. There's a free version as well as a $30 version that's more consumer-friendly.
